Celebrate Chicago Public Library’s 150th Anniversary! Since its opening in 1993, the Uptown Branch has been a fixture for residents throughout the Uptown and Buena Park communities. The branch has striking public spaces, art, and many remarkable assets (including its famed fishing rod lending program).
This tour will start with a look around the library and its design, then move through the community to look at nearby public spaces, parks, and some of the businesses that make Uptown such a compelling neighborhood.
This tour will be led by Max Grinnell, author, urbanologist, geographer, historian, and professor who is an expert in describing, critiquing, and analyzing urban conditions. He has designed and taught urban studies, community development, geography, planning, and sociology courses at the University of Wisconsin, Boston University, the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and the University of Chicago.
How to Attend This event takes place in person. Masks are strongly encouraged in all CPL locations. Questions about visiting the library? Check out Using the Library FAQs.
