It’s time for dormant tree pruning at Chicago’s very first orchard planted by the Chicago Park District, the Triangle Park Community Orchard. Join the Chicago Park District while they demonstrate shaping cuts for higher quality fruit set, tree health, and disease management. They’ll also show you how to use preferred pruning tools to remove water sprouts, suckers, and dead/diseased/damaged branches. Finally, they’ll explain the process of thinning fruit, including how to use a handy tool for determining how much full-sized fruit a branch may support without breaking.
It’s that time of year again to start preparing, pruning, and maintaining the fruit trees at . As many of you know, that orchard was planted right here in Rogers Park at Triangle Park in June of 2018.
